Ottawa, November 10, 2022 — Canadian Parents for French welcomes the statement made by the Féderation des communautés francophones et acadienne (FCFA) urging Members of Parliament to adopt Bill C-13: An Act to amend the Official Languages Act, to enact the Use of French in Federally Regulated Private Businesses Act and to make related amendments to other Acts.

Bill C-13 is the first major reform to the Official Languages Act in more than 30 years, we simply cannot delay its adoption any longer. “As stated by Liane Roy, President of FCFA, after more than six years of consultations, we believe that MPs and the Standing Committee on Official Languages have all the necessary tools to modernize the OLA. Canadian Parents for French has long shared this mutual opinion. The modernization of the OLA has been highly anticipated and long awaited by our more than 35,000 members and by all Canadians who believe in a strong bilingual Canada,” shared Derrek Bentley, CPF National President, at every opportunity.

CPF is pleased to see the FCFA making this public statement and their request to see the bill adopted by the end of the year. We fully support them and join them in asking MPs from all political parties to adopt the bill and to demonstrate their support for bilingualism as a fundamental Canadian value.

The adoption of this bill is essential for CPF’s work to ensure all Canadians have the opportunity to learn French, which will in turn contribute to the bilingualism rate and allow the French language to flourish in Canada.
