What is O’Poésie?

Do have a special way with words?  O’Poésie is a French poetry contest for students learning French as a second language (FSL)!

Students submit a typed (or filmed*) poem using our online form. The contest opens in December and closes in February (dates subject to change each year). Poems will be judged by French-speaking poets, writers, and educators. Prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category.

Download and print our CPF Poetry Worksheet to help you get started!  You can grab it here:

  1. Poems must have a limit of 20 lines or less.
  2. Entries should be typed and uploaded to our site.
  3. Students may choose the theme and form.
  4. Only one entry per student can be submitted. If more that one is submitted, only the most recent one will be entered into the contest.
  • 6 – 8 years old: Haiku, Acrostic, Diamanté (Pattern-type Poems)
  • 9 – 12 years old: All forms of written Poetry
  • 13 – 15 years old: All forms of written Poetry
  • 16 – 18 years old: All forms of written Poetry or video-ed Slam Poetry*

*Students participating in the Slame tes Accents!  contest may submit the same entry to OPoésie for another chance to win.

Marathon de lecture

The Marathon de Lecture is a French Read-a-Thon for Canadian Core French students. Students read French comics or graphic novels to raise money for a good cause, improve their French reading skills, and have fun at the same time!
