Ottawa, October 5, 2022 — Canadian Parents for French would like to acknowledge and thank teachers across Canada as we observe World Teachers’ Day 2022. This year’s theme as co-convened by UNESCO, UNICEF, Education International and the International Labour Organization is: The Transformation of Education Begins with Teachers. As such, we must applaud the work and key role of teachers in shaping education.

CPF recognizes teachers’ efforts today and every day. Throughout the pandemic teachers demonstrated resilience at the most challenging time by engaging with students and adapting their classes for remote learning. In the case of French as a second language teachers, they were able to support their students to keep learning French at home as it became more challenging to learn the language at a distance.

This years’ theme highlights the role teachers are playing in transforming education but also invites us to reflect on the support that is required to fully develop their careers as well as the reputation of the profession across Canada and around the world. CPF joins UNESCO, the International Labour Organization, UNICEF and Education International on calling on governments across Canada to ensure that teachers are trusted and recognized as knowledge producers, reflective practitioners and policy partners.

“As we continue advocating for universal access to FSL education, we acknowledge the fundamental role of teachers. On this day, we would like to thank every teacher for their engagement and their contributions to FSL education and to official languages bilingualism in Canada,” said Derrek Bentley, National President, Canadian Parents for French.

On this special day, join us, Canadian Parents for French in celebrating World Teachers’ Day. Thank your child’s classroom teacher, and especially your school’s FSL teachers. Show them we all recognize and appreciate the work they do every day!
